Lifeguards

Pay Rate: $9.00 – $13/hr., Depending on Experience
LOCATION: El Paso, TX
SCHEDULE: Part time, Days, Hours and Location Vary

PRIMARY DUTIES:
1. Ensure the safety of all swimmers in your area.
2. Enforce all pool rules.
3. Prevent accidents.
4. Respond to emergencies quickly and efficiently.
5. Ensure all rescue equipment is in good condition.
6. Scan pool to achieve 10 x 10 reaction.
7. Report unsafe situations to your supervisor.

SECONDARY DUTIES:
1. Arrive 5 -10 minutes before you are scheduled to be on deck.
2. Report for duty on the pool deck in uniform.
3. While on duty you must wear lifeguard pack around your waist & carry rescue tube.
4. Remain alert and onteh pool deck at all times while on duty.
5. Check chlorine, Ph levels, water level, water and air temperature in pool area and spa.
6. Clean the pool area when no one is in pool.
7. Straighten equipment.
8. Greet members.
9. Keep deck clear of clutter.
10. Brush and skim pool bottom.
11. Read and abide by Personnel Policy
12. Attend all required trainings.
13. Must obtain YMCA Lifeguard Certification as soon as possible.
14. Perform additional task as instructed by supervisors.
15. Report all concerns, incidents, accidents to supervisor immediately.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Ability
1. Must hold current lifeguard certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent from a recognized organization, First Aid and AED.
2. Must be at least 16 years of age.
3. Must be able to communicate with the membership in a respectful manner.
4. Must have the abilities to perform duties without direct supervision
5. Must be able to work as a team member.
6. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.
7. Must be able to read, understand and follow written instructions in English.
8. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. without strain.
9. Must be able to remain on feet and walk for up to 4 hours.
10. Must be able to work in hot, humid environment.
11. Must be able to work around chemically treated pool water areas.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be able to handle irate, complaining and demanding individuals in a calm, professional manner without internalizing or personalizing comments made.
2. Must be mentally able to recognize potential hazards and be capable of handling emergency situations to include performing CPR if necessary.
