Wastewater Treatment System Operator
ROP: $16.00/hour
LOCATION: East El Paso, TX
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday 7:30am to 4:30pm
JOB SUMMARY: The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for operating and
maintaining wastewater treatment facilities to ensure the safe and efficient treatment of
wastewater. They monitor and control the treatment process, perform routine maintenance
tasks, and adhere to environmental regulations and safety protocols.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Operation and Monitoring:
• Operate and control wastewater treatment equipment, including pumps, valves,
blowers, and chemical dosing systems.
• Monitor treatment processes, such as activated sludge, sedimentation, disinfection, and
filtration, to ensure proper functioning and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Conduct regular inspections of plant equipment and processes, identifying any
abnormalities or malfunctions and taking appropriate corrective actions.
• Collect samples and perform tests to monitor water quality parameters and adjust
treatment processes as needed.
2. Maintenance and Repairs:
• Perform routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning equipment, lubricating
machinery, and replacing worn-out or faulty parts.
• Conduct preventive maintenance activities, such as inspecting and servicing pumps,
motors, and valves, to prevent breakdowns and ensure equipment longevity.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate with maintenance personnel or
contractors for repairs beyond their scope.
3. Compliance and Reporting:
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and safety guidelines
related to wastewater treatment.
• Maintain accurate records and logs of plant operations, equipment maintenance, test
results, chemical usage, and any incidents or unusual occurrences.
• Prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies, detailing compliance status,
operational data, and any required documentation.
4. Safety and Emergency Response:
• Follow safety procedures and protocols to maintain a safe work environment.
• Respond to emergencies, such as equipment failures, power outages, or alarms, and
take appropriate actions to mitigate risks and ensure the continuity of wastewater
treatment.
• Participate in safety training programs and promote a culture of safety among plant
staff.
5. Continuous Improvement and Collaboration:
• Identify opportunities for process optimization, efficiency improvements, or cost savings
in wastewater treatment operations.
• Collaborate with colleagues, supervisors, and engineers to implement process changes,
troubleshoot problems, and enhance overall plant performance.
• Stay updated on industry trends, advancements, and regulatory changes related to
wastewater treatment.
REQUIRMENTS:
• High school diploma or equivalent. Additional certifications or technical training in
wastewater treatment are preferred.
• Experience operating and maintaining wastewater treatment plants or similar industrial
facilities is preferred.
• Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, equipment, and regulations is
preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to interpret and follow technical manuals, diagrams, and instructions.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and respond to on-call duties.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator works primarily in a treatment
plant environment, which may involve exposure to chemicals, odors, noise, and varying
weather conditions. The role may require physical activities, such as lifting, climbing, and
working in confined spaces.
